In Western esotericism, the Left-Hand Path and its antithesis, the Right-Hand Path, are two opposing schools, often closely associated with the belief in and/or practise of magic. In simple terms, the Right-Hand Path is the path of goodness or benevolence, often linked to white magic, while its opposite, the Left-Hand Path, is the path of darkness, often associated with the practice of black magic. Such dichotomies are not uncommon and are found in many belief systems. A close analogy within the world of computing is that of Black Hat and White Hat hackers.
And the Write Hand Path? The Write Hand Path is neither good nor evil. It is the path of the Writer, and is different for everyone. There are many ways to walk the Path, and while this website may offer advice or suggestions on plotting your course, few elements of the writer’s journey can truly be broken down into a right or wrong way of reaching your destination. In part, much may depend on your goal – whether you write for pleasure, aim to self-publish, or strive towards traditional mainstream publication. Take whatever advice or wisdom that resonates with your own beliefs and forge your own path.
And if you’re not a writer? You may be interested in the writer’s journey, how ideas progress from first scratched musing to final polished paperback; you’ll find this and more within the In Writing section of the site . For fans of Science Fiction and Fantasy, the book reviews section has more on both classic and recent fiction.
